CUP finals often fizzle out as nerves grip players - but this was not the case on Sunday as Wendron dramatically won the Combination League Cup against Ludgvan.

Both sides were playing in the showpiece game for the first time and it took 120 minutes of football and a penalty shoot-out to determine the 2014/15 champions.

But in the end three saves by Dron's goalkeeper Jon Row paved the way for his side to claim an unlikely victory.

Life looked bleak for Paul Murray's men as regular captain Justin Miles had to pull out of the team last minute after tearing a muscle in the warm up and just four minutes into the game, Luke Wort was shown a straight red for kicking out at Jon Ludlam.

Ludgvan tried to use their man advantage to full affect but came unstuck in the 29th minute when Ryan Tresider's corner for the right was nodded in by stand-in skipper Chris Madeley, who was a solid presence at the back all game and led his side well.

Ludlum levelled matters five minutes before half time with a beautifully curled effort from 25 yards out and 45 seconds after the break, Ludgvan's top goalscorer Gerans James poked the ball home as he got on the end of a corner.

Just when you thought heads would go down in Dron's camp, they stepped back up to the mark and Justin Searle saw his long range effort in the 56th minute saved by Craig Nichols, only for the ball to loop over the keeper and bounce in.

James restored the Hurlers' lead three minutes later with a back post header and at this point, Ludgvan opted to sit back rather than search for a crucial fourth goal.

This let Dron back in the match and with a minute to go, substitute Matt Roberts popped up to equalise and send the game into extra time.

Madeley came the closest in the additional 30 minutes to finding a winner when his header was cleared off the line by Kelvin Snell but other than this, neither side to find the net.

Penalties came and Row took centre stage as he made saves from spot-kicks taken by Jamie Devine, Jack Ramsey and Joe Day.

With the score at 2-2, Chris Mulroy slotted his kick confidently past Nichols and sent his team-mates and Dron supporters into delirium.
