PENRYN Athletic emphatically progessed to the Charity Cup Final after stuffing fellow South West Peninsula League outfit Sticker at Truro City's Treyew Road ground.

They totally outplayed their opponents at the neutral venue on Tuesday evening with goals coming from Ben Oliver, Josh Burton, Luke Brabyn, Ryan Martt and Scott Palmer.

After just four minutes it looked like it could be a long night for Athletic as goalkeeper Chris Symons was forced off with an injury, meaning Palmer had to don the gloves for his side.

Sticker had most of the possession in the opening 20 minutes but were unable to carve out any chances with Oliver making them pay for this when he nodded his team ahead with Penryn's first effort of the match.

Burton doubled the lead in the 32nd minute as he pummelled a shot towards goal from 25 yards out which took a slight deflection off a defender, but still probably would have left Ryan Holland unable to reach it even without the extra touch.

Athletic were controlling matters in midfield and ten minutes after the second half kicked off, Luke Brabyn found space to run into and without anyone closing him down, fizzed a shot from outside the area past Holland.

Ed Wilton nearly made it 4-0 when he got on the end of a lovely crossfield long pass by David Blizzard only to see his shot palmed onto the post.

But it would not be long before the fourth was added and it came from a spectacular effort from Martt as he sweetly struck a shot from about 30 yards out which went over Holland and then dipped under the bar.

An awful night for Sticker was finished off in the 80th minute when Kevin Lawrence was brought down in the box and Ryan Cornelius awarded Athletic a penalty.

In scenes not spotted every day, Palmer was elected to take the spot-kick and after sprinting the whole length of the pitch, the man who normally plays as a striker but started his career between the sticks rifled the ball in.

Helston Athletic or St Dennis await Penryn in the final on May 6, with the second semi final being played at Falmouth Town's Bickland Park on Wednesday night.
