A HOTLY contested Luke Cup Final on Sunday saw Helston Hawks Under 16s eventually see off local rivals Culdrose 5-4 at Porthleven.

In a thrilling game, Helston were forced to battle hard to lift the cup as their opponents put in a valiant fightback towards the end of the match.

After going 5-2 up, the Hawks appeared to be set for a straightforward victory, but two goals in the space of a couple minutes made the final few minutes a tense affair.

Helston managed to hold their nerve in front of 175 spectators and claim the cup which is contested amongst teams from across Cornwall.

Just two weeks earlier, it was Culdrose who took home the plaudits by winning the Kernow Youth League Final against their cup opponents via a penalty shoot-out.

Most of the Hawks team has been together since they were eight-years-old, working their way through the different age categories.

With no U18 league to go into, it is expected the cup final would be the final game played by both sets of players together.

Tonight, Helston's U18s take on Morwenstow in the Rathbone Trophy Final at Godolphin Atlantic's ground.

The club's U14s Girls' side have also made it to their respective County Cup Final.
