PORTHLEVEN manager Phil Kellow has said his players are "keen as mustard" to get the 2015/16 season under way.

The Fishermen start life under their new boss, who replaced Dennis Annear at the end of the last campaign, with a home match against Millbrook on Saturday in the South West Peninsula League West.

During the summer, Port have seen a number of players depart the club with Tom and Jordan Annear signing for SWPL Premier side Newquay and right-back Chris Wormington joining Falmouth Town.

However, new faces have been brought into the squad including Ryan Trathen who has been on the scoresheet several times in pre-season friendlies.

Kellow is still looking to recruit more players, particularly upfront and in defence, but said the side are going into the season full of confidence.

Kellow said: "We have a good group of young players who are keen as mustard to get the season started.

"The performances in the Dave Gardner Tournament were good and we competed well with teams like Helston and Falmouth who are a league above us and it was great to get a 6-1 victory against my old side, Penzance.

"Training has gone really excellently and on Saturday we'll be looking to set our stall out against Millbrook."

Captaining the side this season will be midfielder Dan Greet, who has already impressed Kellow and the club's assistant manager Daryl Hunter since being handed the armband.

"Dan has been in the side for the last couple of years and he knows all the players involved here," he said.

"Already on and off the pitch he has done what me and Daryl have wanted from him and he has got good leadership qualities."
