LIFE in the top division had a wonderful beginning for Helston Athletic as they ended a historic day with a 3-0 victory over St Blazey.

Inside their new look Kellaway Park home, which has undergone major renovations since their promotion in May, the Blues were dominant against the visitors who stalled in the blocks at the start of a new season.

Matt Fox became the man who scored the first goal for Athletic in the SWPL Premier when he headed home Jordan Adlard's cross from the right after Tornado Bello lost the ball just outside his own penalty area with 16 minutes gone.

Athletic were an attacking force in the first half and full of confidence against a side who seemed lacklustre, Mark Goldsworthy doubled the lead four minutes before the break when he nipped in to poach a strike after a goalmouth scramble from a free kick.

Tom Russell thought he had made 3-0 on the stroke of half time only to have a strike chalked off for offside, but it took just three minutes after the interval for the substitute to make up for this as he nodded the ball past Dave Painter.

Proceedings took a more leisurely pace after this as the Green & Blacks knew the game was up with Jason Robertson having an easy afternoon between the hosts' sticks, with only Bello's firmly struck free kick testing him.

Debutant Phil Cattran should have made it 4-0 but messed up his lines when Goldsworthy pull back to him with the goal at his mercy got caught up in his feet, but it did not stop the smiles beam across Blues' fans faces after the final whistle blew.
