FALMOUTH Town boss Wayne Hughes believes Saturday’s 0-0 draw against fifth placed Exmouth Town shows the side are developing well.

It was a positive performance from the Ambers who are 17th in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division against their visitors.

The match was an attacking affair with both sides having several chances during the 90 minutes.

Proceedings could have got even better for Town as five minutes from time, Adam Williams went agonisingly close to scoring, only to see his shot crash off the crossbar.

Getting a point pleased Hughes, although he was slightly disappointed not to get all three in the end.

Hughes said: “Before the game, I would have taken a point, but we had a couple of good chances and actually could have got the win.

“But it was a good performance and it has shown we are not that bad and we are turning a corner as a side.

“Drawing against a side like Exmouth is good for our confidence as well as we head into a run of away games against sides we can beat, so hopefully we’ll be able to have a real go at them.”

Exmouth have not played since Boxing Day and they made a sluggish start to the match as Town, who welcomed Josh Sims and Kayne Trevaskis, pictured above, back into the side after shaking off injuries, got on top in the early exchanges.

Mike Vanes went close after five minutes as he attempted to chip visiting goalkeeper Mike Searle from just inside the penalty area, but the Exmouth stopper gathered the ball.

The side from Devon then found a bit of rhythm and Danny Boere forced a fine save from Jason Peters in the 20th minute.

Home captain Joe Cooper headed just wide on the half hour mark before Karl Rickard made Peters work again ten minutes before the break.

Both sides kept up their attacking mindsets in the second half, but neither could find the back of the net with any of the opportunities created.

Williams’ shot which hit the woodwork in the closing minutes was the closest either team came to scoring.

Town travel up to Stoke Gabriel for their next match on Saturday.
