Falmouth Town 2 – 2 Callington Town

The points were shared on Saturday when Falmouth Town met Callington, with the away team having to withstand some heavy pressure to see out the result.

Falmouth got off to a slow start and were lucky not to be behind at the break, with Callington finding the woodwork twice, and dominating possession. The scoreline remained goalless heading into the half-time break though.

It was the visitors who broke the deadlock however, against the run of play, when Callington’s Michael Lucas attempted a clearance, but only found the back of his own net with keeper Sam Borthwick in no position to block it.

Falmouth further added to Callington’s woes when Glenn Squires doubled their lead just before the hour mark, evading everyone to score with a simple header.

The home side’s frustration showed, the referee bearing the brunt of their ire when several decisions went against them. They didn’t have to wait long for a change of fortune though, as a foul in Falmouth’s box brought them a penalty, from which Gary Williams scored.

Falmouth were forced to hold on at this point, and Callington found another telling blow when Ryan Lucassi found the net after 80 minutes.

The end proved nervy from both teams, and both will likely have been happy with the draw.
