SOUTH West Peninsula League West leaders Helston Athletic maintained their position on top of the table following a comfortable 4-0 win.

Wadebridge Town came to Kellaway Park on Saturday but were left undone by yet another hat-trick from Blues goal machine Mark Goldsworthy, who now has 50 strikes to his name in all competitions this season.

Midfielder Charlie Young also got on the scoresheet for Athletic in the first half to help the side stay a point above Sticker with two games in hand over their nearest rivals.

A week earlier, the Bridgers had been involved in an entertaining home draw with Sticker which saw both sides score four times.

They would see the same amount of goals shipped against them for the second week in a row, but this time a response could not be mustered by them.

Goldsworthy got the scoreboard ticking in the first half, which had a brief interruption when a spectator’s dog ran onto the pitch, before Young doubled the lead.

Before the interval, Goldsworthy made it 3-0 to effectively wrapped up the points for Athletic.

The Bridgers showed signs of improvment in the second half but could not find a way past the home defence.

After holding off their opponents, Goldsworthy completed his sixth treble of the season in the 60th minute to sure up the three points and the Blues’ ninth league win in a row.

With 20 minutes to go, Athletic gave a debut to Matt Lloyd who the club signed from fellow title rivals St Dennis last week.

On Saturday, third place Vospers Oak Villa travel to Kellaway Park.
