Helston Ath 0, Witheridge 2

HELSTON boss Sid Taylor was full of praise for their Devon opponents on Saturday, who made the long journey to Kellaway Park with just 12 men but produced a fine display of passing football in SWPL Premier.

He also admitted that he may have made a mistake in selecting a 3-5-2 formation - something that had worked well in recent weeks but perhaps wasn't suitable for the personnel he had available to him on Saturday.

After reverting to a 4-4-2 in the second half, the home side improved and but for a blatant hand ball that was not seen by the referee or his linesman, the Blues could have established a foothold in the game.

The home side suffered the worst possible start when Witheridge took the lead after two minutes when Kyle Bassett went through on goal and beat Barrie Wyatt in a one on one situation.

Helston were also left ruing the second goal after quarter of an hour when the visitors looked offside before Jordan Charran slotted home.

Taylor said: "They turned up with only 12 but fought for everything and they ran us all over the park. I take the blame for getting the formation wrong in the first half but take nothing away from Witheridge, they passed the ball nicely and they were very well organised."

The victory meant Witheridge leapfrogged Helston in the table, who were in ninth spot before their game at Plymouth Parkway last night.

They make a quick return to Devon on Saturday when they travel to Cullompton.
