THIS was a shock result to beat all shock results this season as tenth placed Bude trounced the Peninsular League Division One West leaders Penryn by five goals to nil.

There were a few changes in the Penryn line up but not enough to dramatically alter the formation of the side. Chris Symons was called on to snuff out two early openings and Sean Johnson made a clearance off the line.

Unplanned changes were made in the 24th and 26th minutes as Tyler Cooke and Dale Band went off with injuries. They were replaced by forwards Scott Palmer and David Leach, who were very adequate replacements. But on the 30 minute mark high-flying Penryn’s demise as the busy Bude skipper Billy Hopcroft’s snap shot went in off the diving Symons.

Then five minutes later a confident Bude carved out their second goal through Dave Youldon. Youldon went on to crack in another five after the restart, before Penryn could get going in the second half.

By now, Penryn could hardly put a foot right as Hopcroft snapped up budes fourth goal on 66 mins. And five mins later the trouncing was complete as Chris Hill was credited with the fifth goal, despite the ball taking a clear deflection on its way past Symonds to complete Penryn’s biggest rub down with a pineapple for some years.

Lineup: Chris Symons, David Blizzard, Russell May, Sean Johnson, Ben Oliver (c), Ryan Martt, Luke Brabyn, Ollie Moody, Tyler Cooke, Dale band, Kevin Lawrence. Subs: Scott Palmer (Cook 24), David Leach (Band 26).
