PENRYN Athletic have said it could be some time before they can play at their Kernick Road ground again.

The club issued a statement on Wednesday night about the state of the pitch which was significantly churned up when their reserve team played Falmouth Town Reserves in the Jolly's Combination League on Boxing Day.

On the morning of the game, it passed a pitch inspection despite concerns being raised by the club officials who felt the turf would be damaged badly if played on.

Since then, no games have been able to take place at the ground due to the damage coupled with adverse weather conditions which have hit Cornwall.

The club's statement said: "On the Boxing Day Kernick pitch massacre, more damage was done in one day than the whole of the horrendously wet winter last year.

"There is a clear FA directive regarding the procedure in determining the suitability of grounds in adverse conditions.

"We feel these were not abided by."

A couple of pictures of the current state of the pitch were also posted by the club on their Twitter account.
