OFFICIALS from St Dennis have confirmed they will not be looking to overturn bans on three of their players following an investigation to abuse allegations in their match with Penryn Athletic.

As revealed by the Packet Sport website on Wednesday afternoon, the Cornwall FA have handed suspensions to Lee Rickard for eight matches, beginning on April 8, and Brett Allen for four games.

Guy Carter, who plays in the Saints' third team, has also been given a six match ban.

The suspensions were dished out after an investigation was conducted into the abuse given to Athletic's linesman Tom Blewett after he disallowed an injury time strike by Ryan Hayhurst, which would have made the score of the South West Peninsula League West match on February 21 2-1 to the Saints.

Steve Best, vice-chairman at the club, issued a statement on behalf of the team on Friday.

It said: “This was a very unfortunate situation that developed after a very competitive game which everyone regrets, including Rickard, Carter and Allen.

"The CCFA have dealt with all cases in the proper way with the full co-operation of the said players, the management team and the committee.

"The players have been given substantial fines and bans and neither the players, nor the club, will be applying for any form of appeal to the CCFA.

"St Dennis AFC will not tolerate such behaviour from their players and fully support the decision that was made by the CCFA.

"In addition the club has sent a full apology to all concerned.

"Let’s hope this is a lesson learned for everyone involved in grassroots football so that there is no repeat of such actions and that the FA’s Respect programme is firmly embedded in every club’s ethos and objectives.”
