A MISSED penalty and a controversially disallowed goal in the dying seconds left Porthleven disappointed on Saturday.

They left Vospers Oak Villa with a 2-2 draw and a point, but they returned to Gala Parc knowing all three could have easily been theirs.

Tom Annear had an opportunity to score from the spot in the first half, but saw his effort strike the post.

Port went onto squander a two goal lead but thought they had restored their lead in injury time when Elliot Jorey, playing in his second game since signing from Penryn Athletic, tapped home.

However, much to the annoyance of the Fishermen, the linesman’s flag was up for a dubious offside call, meaning victory was snatched away from them.

Star striker Jordan Annear was unavailable for the trip due to a hamstring injury while defender Dan Tarrant starts a three match ban for his straight red card picked up the week previously at Penryn.

Returning to the line-up for Port was Kyle Frasier, who has been at university in the USA, and he was joined by Dan Turner, who was named as a substitute after he signed for the club during the week.

It was a difficult start for the hosts as they were forced into two substitutions with Elliot Cunningham and Lewis Young had to go off in place of Neil Kingsman and Vinnie Wightarper-Ennis.

With five minutes to go until the interval, Port took the lead when Annear’s long pass found Liam Hunter on the wing.

He fired in a cross which was run onto by Freddie Williams to spank home.

Then on the stroke of half time, Chris Wormington was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded.

Skipper Annear stepped up confidently, but saw his shot crash off the woodwork and get cleared away on the rebound.

Almost straight after the break, Andy Harris nearly equalised for Vospers only to see Benji Bryant pull off a good save low to the ground.

This would appear to be a momentary blip at the time though as three minutes into the half, Hunter extended the lead for Port after neat link-up play between Frasier and Jack Coleman.

Proceedings went back into the balance though four minutes later when Vospers were awarded a penalty when Wormington was judged to have hauled down Dean Smith in the box.

It looked a soft decision and Smith picked himself back up and fired home.

Smith should have equalised for the hosts after Williams gave the ball away in his own half, but the Vospers man sent a shot wide with just Bryant to beat.

Dan Greet went close for Port when his first time shot was well saved and then with ten minutes remaining, the home side found a leveller.

Early substitute Kingsman sent in a cross which was met by the head of Dan Worth, putting it into the back of the net.

Port pushed forwards looking for a winner and they seemed to have got it deep into stoppage time when Jorey reacted first to a spillage by the goalkeeper to poke home.

But the strike was disallowed to the astonishment of the visitors as the assistant referee had flagged for offside.

Protests were thrown in by the Fishermen, but they had to settle for a point.
