DENNIS Annear's aim of picking up 18 points from his last six games in charge of Porthleven were kept alive by his side with a 2-1 victory over Penryn Athletic.

All three goals in Saturday's South West Peninsula League West clash came from home players as Jordan Annear and Dan Tarrant put the ball past Chris Symons while Kyle Winnan, recently signed from Athletic, put it into his own net.

Annear's strike came in the 27th minute just as the visitors were settling into proceedings and exerting control, only for Port's top scorer to get on the end of his older brother Tom's lovely cross-field pass and send a shot across Symons into the bottom left hand corner.

Athletic equalised 11 minutes later as their two most creative players of the day Kevin Lawrence and David Broglino combined.

The latter was found by a cross to the back post and his poke towards goal was hit into his own net by Winnan as the centre back tried to clear it away.

Port got back ahead in the 56th minute as Tarrant took advantage of a very slight hesitation from Symons after a free kick was thumped into the penalty area from the halfway line and the defender nodded the ball home.

Every ounce of effort was put by in by Athletic for the remainder of the game as they searched for another equaliser, but their work-rate was matched by the Fishermen defence who were excellent and formed a force-field around the goal.
