OUTGOING Porthleven manager Dennis Annear said he will continue to keep an eye on things in the Cornish football world.

The 44-year-old is stepping down as the Fishermen’s boss due to work commitments giving him less time to run first team matters at Gala Parc.

He was given a good send off on Saturday as Port won their final match of the season 2-1 at Wadebridge Town, which chalked up their fourth win in their last six matches.

Speaking to the Packet, Annear said he will miss being involved with life at a football club, but added he will still be about.

Annear said: “There is no way you can really gear up for retirement, especially as it was a situation I was forced into because of my work.

“Of course I am going to miss it. Yeah it can be a pain having to rush home from work on a Tuesday evening and run out to training or a game and organising the team for Saturday can be challenging, but I will miss it all.

“I’ll still be around watching football where my sons play, whether that is at Porthleven or another club.”

Taking over from Annear will be Phil Kellow and the pair have been speaking to each other ahead of the latter’s succession into the role.

“Phil has been talking to me about what’s going on and what players I think we should try and keep at the club,” Annear said.

“I think they just need to bring in a couple of more experienced heads in to help the youngsters out.”
