Falmouth Athletic won the Cornwall Junior Cup final (west) after a dramatic night of football at Bickland Park on Wednesday night.

Athletic beat Constantine 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra-time.

They took the lead in the first half thanks to a 35-yard strike from Steve Shepherd which floated over the 'Tine keeper's head and into the top left hand corner midway through the first half.

Constantine had plenty of chances to get back into the match in the second half including shot from Paul Jeffrey, which cannoned off the underside of the crossbar with ten minutes to go.

However, just when it looked as though Athletic were going to scrape a 1-0 win, Lee Miller was red carded for handling a goal-bound header on the line. Mark Kent stepped up to slot the penalty in.

Constantine then had appeals for an extra-time penalty turned down when Kevin Toy upended Neil Dickinson in the box, before the match was decided on spot kicks.

Athletic, who went second in the shoot-out, got the perfect start went Toy saved Kent's opening penalty. The Falmouth-Helston league one side then went on to convert all five of their spot kicks to give them victory.
