THE competition for the Baragwaneth Cup attracted 102 entrants on Saturday at Falmouth Golf Club, writes Keith Rashleigh.

In good conditions, Alistair Tregenza-Hall deservedly won with a fine haul of 44 stableford points, which included a birdie at the 16th.

Alan McColl was runner up with another good score of 42 points including birdies at the 4th and 13th holes, but a brace of blobs at the 14th and 17th effectively ended his hopes of winning.

Keith Popperwell carded 41 points to take third place and had birdies at the 1st 10th 14th 17th and 18th holes, with a blob at the 12th. Also on 41 points, but losing out on the countbacks, were Andrew Kemp, Leonard Philp and Rob Brown.

Wednesday saw The McGregor Trophy monthly stableford, sponsored by Kelsall Steele Investment Services, which was well won by Ben Browning with 41 points, including birdies at the 7th 10th and 17th holes, with a blob at “The Plateau” 15th hole.

Runner up was Robert Tongue with 38 points and third was Lenny Lewis with 37 points.

Friday saw the seniors at the club battle out the Cornish v The Rest of the World in a series of four ball better ball matches.

The sheer size of the St Piran flag which was taller than the flag pole that carried it, allegedly frightened The Rest so much that some of them defected to the Cornish ranks.

Certainly the adage “if you can't beat ‘em, join ‘em” proved true as the Pasty Boys triumphed by nine matches to four.
