CHRIS Dowling deservedly won the December monthly Stableford sponsored by Kelsall Steele Investment Services Limited at Falmouth Golf Club on New Year’s Eve, writes Keith Rashleigh.

His fine haul of 40 points was too good for the rest of the field and Dowling put his success down to sinking a number of 6-8 foot putts and scoring steadily throughout with 11 pars on the card.

In tricky conditions, Dowling won the competition by one point from Robert Tongue who had birdies at the 10th and 16th holes.

Freddie Norris also returned 39 including birdies at the fourth and 13th holes, while George Popperwell and Dave Holland also carded the same total to take fourth and fifth places respectively.

Round five of the Winter League was cancelled on Saturday as some of the greens were unplayable.

An additional mixed greensome is organised for this Sunday.
