It was a busy weekend at Falmouth Golf Club, writes Keith Rashleigh.

Friday evening saw the popular Annual Clash between Falmouth Golf Club and Falmouth Docks with the Golf Club winning with a strong all round performance by 7.5 matches to 2.5.

The event was sponsored by A & P Falmouth Ltd and the match was followed by a superb B.B.Q. laid on by the Club`s Head Chef Doug Johns.

On Saturday the E.T.S. Cups, played in teams of three with two scores to count on each hole, saw 75 entrants in teams of three.

The event saw a dramatic finish as the triumvirate of Terry Dickinson, Nick Morrison and Steve Robbins snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

They scored a fantastic eight points on the 17th hole to send them on their way to a total of 83 stableford points with respective nines of 37 and 46.

This earned them victory on count backs from the trio of Roger Weeks, Ian Renshaw and Robert Tongue, as with the cups in their hands and the speech written they could only manage one point between them coming down the final hole.

Third were Ian “Henry” Churcher, Malcolm “Bert” Coulls and Pete Lewis also with 83 points with nines of 43 and 40 points.

They also suffered at the final hole where they could only muster three points between them.

There was also county success for young golfer William Sercombe, who won the boys under-14 championship at Truro last Sunday.

William came out on top of the 19-strong field with a fine gross 80, one shot ahead of West Cornwall’s Jack Kevern.

Fellow Falmouth duo Archie Fox and Harry Drewett also competed, with Archie coming sixth with 84 while Harry carded 89 to finish 13th.
