Falmouth RFC’s Recreation Ground will be buzzing this Sunday afternoon as Penryn travel the short distance down the A39 to take on their local rivals in the quarter-finals of the Cornwall Cup.

The two clubs, who contest an annual friendly over the Christmas period, play in different divisions so the cup has given them an extra opportunity to lock horns.

Penryn currently sit in second place in the Western Counties West Division, while Falmouth are in the league below (Cornwall and Devon) in seventh.

Speaking at the time the draw was made Penryn coach Paul Trevaskis, told the Packet he expected the local rivalry to be a real leveller.

“We are expecting a tough game as it is a local derby and a chance to get into the sem-final, so I’m sure Falmouth will be up for the match.”

Falmouth RFC’s Arthur Williams, also echoed these thoughts saying: “It is a great draw as we always raise our game for Penryn,” he said. “Every player will wear their hearts on their sleeves and it is a derby that always creates a lot of local interest.”

Kick-off will be at 2.30pm.
