Cornwall started their 2011 Channel League game with a tricky away game against neighbours Devon at East Devon Golf Club last Sunday.
Near perfect weather conditions greeted the players for the start of the morning foursomes and although for a period of time Cornwall led in most of the games they only had a three-and-two win for Ben Westgate and Steve Chapman over Ryan Fricker and Adam Bridgewater and a half from Billy Downing and Rob Macgregor with David Blick and Damien Gee to show for their efforts as Devon led three-and-a-half to one-and-a-half at lunch.
Cornish hopes were raised in the afternoon with early singles wins from Antony Nash, two-up over James Dimond and Ben Westgate, four-and-three over Adam Bridgewater but in the end could only add one more win from Joe Cruse in the last match, two-and-one over Tom Woodhouse and a half from Steve Chapman with Ryan Fricker.
In the end it was disappointment for Cornwall as Devon ran out worthy 10 – 5 winners.
Cornwall will be in action again soon when they take on Wiltshire in the Channel League on Sunday, April 17, at Newquay
