Despite playing the toughest format in golf, The Cook/Martin mixed foursomes medal attracted a bumper turnout at Budock Vean Golf Club last Wednesday, writes Keith Rashleigh.

The untried pairing of Chris Mason and Maureen Salome combined well to win with a good net 66.5.

They scooped the lucrative twos jackpot on their way to adding their names to the honours board. Runner up and only missing out on a back six countback were Don McFarlane and Kikki Arthur who also combined well. Third were Ron and Mary-Rose Bradshaw with a very tidy net 68. The prizes were presented by Pam Cook.

On Sunday the extra Stableford event was deservedly won by Richard Whatmore, Budock Vean’s handicap secretary and junior organiser.

Despite a ‘blob’ on the 16th. He then birdied the 17th to help card 20 on the back nine for a total of 41, which was just enough to pip vice captain Richard Burton into second place.

Richard covered the back nine in just 36 strokes. Don McFarlane continued his good form by taking third place with a good haul of 38 points to take the prize on countback from Rob Gibson and Roger Mildren.

Happiest man in the bar was David Stevens who scooped the back nine twos jackpot at the 11th.
