On Saturday Budock Vean Golf Club overcame Perranporth Golf Club at Tehidy Park to make it through to the last 16 of the Cornwall Bowl, writes Keith Rashleigh.

It needed a dramatic extra-hole victory from their final pair of club captain David Houldsworth and his partner David Penrose to win the match.

Earlier the two David's had won the 16th to go one up. The Perranporth pair levelled it on the 17th before halving the 18th. With all the other matches finished a lot of pressure was on in the sudden death play off which Budock Vean incredibly won with an eight at the par four 19th. Vean’s top pairing of Brian Martin and Mike O` Hara played a huge part by winning four and three with some vintage golf and superb putting. Indeed it was ten years ago Brian helped Budock Vean win the Frank Wills Salver at the same venue. Another experienced pair Bob Hartnell and David Stevens also played solidly for Budock Vean to win their match by three and two to set up the tensest of play offs.
