David Houldsworth won the latest round of the Roger Mildren sponsored Winter League at Budock Vean Golf Club on Sunday, with a fine haul of 41 Stableford points, writes Keith Rashleigh.

Despite a bogey at the par three 18th, his pars at the treacherous par five 16th and another at the 17th saw him just hold off inform Dennis McQuillan on countback.

Third was Kevin Bate with another tidy score of 39 points. Richard Burton and Ian Scorse were the only players to register back nine twos.

Club captain Richard hit a thundering drive over the trees to within three feet at the par four 12th, before sinking his eagle putt. Meanwhile Ian knocked his tee shot at the 15 close to earn a share of the spoils. With five rounds left to play. Tony Grace shares the league lead with Stephen Penrose both with an aggregate of 149 points. Dennis McQuillan is three points behind, but is looking dangerous with a 31 pointer to get rid of, while Geoff Mills is staying in touch with 144 points.

This Saturday at 12 midday Budock Vean take on Truro at home in the Daily Mail team classic.

Budock Vean’s selected team is Richard Burton; Tony Ramsden; Stephen Penrose; Geoff Mills and Paul Upperton with Martin Rule also in the squad.
