A fabulous 47 Stableford points saw David Penrose and Kevin Bate win the inaugural men's better-ball pairs championship at Budock Vean last Sunday.

David ‘held the Fort’ for the front eight, before Kevin weighed in with an inspirational birdie two at the ninth for a four pointer.

An impressive 23 points at the turn saw the pair plunder plenty more points equally between them on the back nine for a further 24 points and an untouchable total of 47 points.

It’s a fact the duo were in such outstanding form they could have walked in after 15 holes as by then they had carded 40 points.

It would have been enough to win as the runners up Paul Upperton and Dennis McQuillan, who carded the only back nine two of the day, could only finish with a tidy total of 39 points. Steve Crouch and Chris Mason also did well to finish with 39 points.

The competition was very well supported and the winners receive a cup donated by the Captain Richard Burton at the A.G.M. as well as two rounds of golf at St Mellion on the highly ranked Kernow and Nicklaus courses.

Just for a change it a lovely day for the Ladies on Wednesday week as they played for the EWGA Medal.

First prize went to Jenny Wake with a fine net 68. Jenny was a popular winner and delighted with her two stroke reduction in handicap. Runner up was Lesley Upperton with a net 72 (now playing off a 16 handicap) and 3rd Barbara Craig with a net 74.
