A Helston golfer has beaten the odds this year to claim three hole-in-ones in the same summer.

Paul Head, aged 62, grabbed his first hole-in-one at the 8th green at Mullion Golf Course. A couple of weeks later, playing at the same course, he grabbed his second hole-in-one at the 16th.

And last week he followed it up by holing out from the tee at Budock Vean Golf Club on the 11th.

Statisticians have calculated that the chances of an average golfer making a hole-in-one 12,500 to 1, making the odds of three in one summer, a very rare occurrence.

Speaking about the achievement, Paul, said:  “I was quite pleased and excited to have done it. It certainly has beaten the odds to get three holes in one in a year, as it is difficult enough to get one.”

Paul is a member at Mullion Golf Club and plays in the senior section, known as the EGGS (Elderly Gentlemen’s Golfing Section). He started playing golf at the age of 50 and has since reduced his handicap from 27 to 12.

However, he added that the hole-in-ones have not help him in reducing his handicap further. This is because the first and second hole-in-ones came in social rounds he played with Brian Wearing and Peter Norton.

The hole-in-one at Budock Vean was sunk in a match against the host club. However, despite helping him to win that particular hole, he and his playing partner Peter Brewer lost their game.
