ST JUST 2

MULLION 1

MULLION suffered a narrow defeat away to West Penwith side St Just when they were beaten 2-1 in the Jolly's Combination League.

Badly in need of some points, the match began well for the visitors who took the lead in the 15th minute when David Cheetham's cross deceived not only his own forwards but the home defence as it somehow found its way into the corner of the net.

It was just the start Mullion wanted, but ten minutes later they were back on level pegging when Matt Gendall ran on to Neil Curnow's pass and pushed the ball past Rob Rosevear to equalise.

Worse was to come for Mullion because seven minutes later the home side scored again and it was Curnow who was at the heart of the move when he provided the pin-point cross for Shane Richards to give Rosevear no chance from six yards.

To Mullion's credit they worked hard and competed well throughout the remainder of the game, but they were never able to quite open up the home defence to create the crucial goalscoring opportunity.

St Just were no better in the opposition's box and their only real chance came from Richards who was denied a goal by an absolutely outstanding save by Rosevear who tipped the ball over the bar.

Mullion have a home fixture against St Day on Saturday.

Mullion: R Rosevear, B Tremain, D Higgins, D Phillips, R Spencer, G Mason, C Ensink, K Warbis, D Cheetham, D Reed, C Lawrence. Sub: D Meagor.
