Mullion 161 Paul II 117 Mullion’s fifth win of the season came at Hutchens Park on Saturday to keep them in the top half of the division two table.
They overcame Paul seconds by 44 runs and are in fifth spot, thirty points behind leaders Rosudgeon. Having been put in Mullion suffered early setbacks when both openers were dismissed with only 18 on the board. Kevin Bosustow was lbw to Mark Osborne for six and Trevor Lee followed a run later when Craig Osborne had him caught for 10.
David Gray was run out for 11 before Jim Pearson and Tom Retallack added 62 to take the total to 99 before the fourth wicket fell. Retallack was the man to go off the bowling of Ben Robinson for 16.
Pearson went on to make 53 that included seven fours. On his dismissal, Mark Hall continued the good work to make 36 including three sixes and a four. The innings ended on 161 in the 47th over.
Craig Osborne took four for 27 and Mark Osborne three for 43. Dan Gillman made early strikes to trap Ben Brooks lbw and had Nicole Richards caught with only 13 on the board.
Stuart Lee got rid of Tom Ruhrmund and Bosustow had Craig Osborne caught by Gillman for a single.
When opener Robert Corbett was bowled by Retallack for 27 and Bosustow struck to dismiss Murray Westren, the home team were struggling at 50 for six. Ben Robinson struck seven boundaries in his 39. Harvey James made 11, adding 47 before Bosustow struck. The end came quickly as Trevor Lee took three for one from 2.3 overs. Bosustow took three for 24 and Gillman two for 14 from ten accurate overs. Second placed Ludgvan visit Garro Lane on Saturday Mullion 161 (J Pearson 53, M Hall 36; C Osborne 4-27, M Osborne 3-43), Paul 117 (B Robinson 39, R Corbett 27; T Lee 3-1, K Bosustow 3-24, D Gilman 2-14). Mullion (19 points) beat Paul (seven) by 44 runs.
Mullion seconds 204-8 St Ives 200 Mullion seconds narrowed the gap at the top of the division five with this thrilling home win over the leaders St Ives. It leaves Mullion in second spot, 22 points adrift after nine games.
After winning the toss Mullion lost Joe Stuteley for 0 with 10 on the board. A second wicket partnership of 152 transformed the innings.
Nick Casley hit nine fours in his 55 and Stephen Green thirteen boundaries in his 78. Once parted wickets fell regularly but Robert Casley made 22 to see the 200 up. St Ives got off to a great start as Leigh Murray and Steve Cantrill put on 95. Murray dominated to make 77 before being lbw to Nick Casley.
The visitors got to 134 for two before Green took over in an inspired spell. He took six for 28 from ten overs to bowl Mullion right back into the game.
The last pair came together with 20 still needed. In a tense finish this was reduced to five when Josh Mathias had last man Ian Noall caught for 12. Mullion are at St Gluvias on Saturday.
