Seamus wins West Cornwall Golf Club Championships

In difficult conditions, 51 players took to the course for the Club Championship played as a 36-hole medal at West Cornwall Golf Club.

Of the early starters, Jon Coleman posted 69 (net 68) to be the only player under par net and to lead the gross competition.

The lead stood for a considerable time until Stewart Boon, playing off a 12 handicap shot a net 67.

However, junior member Ryan Weeks also playing off 12 shot an outstanding net 62 to lead by 5 shots going into the afternoon. Coleman with his 69 lead by 4 shots in the gross event from Seamus Stevens and Dean Tulley.

The afternoon round saw Coleman card a gross 73 to leave himself clear in the gross, Tulley having shot 75 and Seamus Stevens 72.

This left Stevens leading in the net competition and with Boon shooting 81, all depended on Weeks carding 76 or better.

Unfortunately the youngster was unable to keep his morning form and carded a 77 to leave Stevens winning the title on countback.

Other results: Ladies: The Tyringham Bowl: 1, Sandra Varnals, net 68, 2, Gill Cattran, net 69, 3, Susan Jarman, net 71; Ladies 9-hole stableford: 1, Joy Finney; The Jack Stephen’s Charity Cup: 1, Alan Williams, net 63, 2, John Osborne, net 65, Phil Phaby, net 66.
