Another win for Mullion


MULLION 234-5 REDRUTH SECONDS 143 With seven wins and only two defeats in the first half of the season Mullion have moved up to third spot in the division two table following this comfortable win at Trewirgie.

Mullion didn’t have the best of starts losing Kevin Bosustow for eight when he was caught off Josh Wingfield with the score at 25. Stephen Green followed to make it 55 for two.

The innings was rebuilt as David Gray found a good partner in Jim Pearson as the pair added 76 for the third wicket before Pearson was dismissed by Paul Ladner for 15. Gray went on to reach his maiden century before being out for 101 having hit a six and eleven fours.

The Mullion innings was given a late boost as Mark Hall made his first 50 of the season. He was run out for 51 but with Tom Retallack hitting 25 not out Mullion reached an impressive 234 for five off their 48 overs. Wingfield was the best of the home attack taking two for 38 from his ten overs.

Redruth got off to a bad start losing Darren Cliff for 12 and Ben Page for nine with only 16 on the board. Aaron Wallace gave hope making 37 and Craig Williams hit 16 before being run out but wickets continued to tumble.

Wingfield completed a good game to make 43 not out but the end came in the 41st over at 143. Gillman and Kevin Bosustow took a couple of wickets apiece with one each for Lee, Retallack and Green. On Saturday Mullion travel to Leedstown Mullion 234-5 (D Gray 101, M Hall 51, T Retallack 25; J Wingfield 2-38), Redruth 143 (J Wingfield 43no, A Wallace 37; D Gillman 2-23, K Bosustow 2-48). Mullion (20 points) beat Redruth (five) by 91 runs.

MULLION SECONDS 246-5 ST JUST 248-6 Mullion seconds lost ground at the top of division five when they went down to a four wicket home defeat against St Just thirds.

James Rowe was the star for Mullion making a splendid 125 before being third out at 188. Ben Johnson made 54 and Malcolm Todd 20 to keep the momentum going.

St Just made a great response to win by four wickets with an over to spare. Nick Skerratt led the way with 82 before Ryan Davies made 51 and Stuart Nicholls 37 not out. Josh Mathias almost brought Mullion victory with three for 49 and Johnson took two for 75. Leedstown seconds visit Garro Lane on Saturday.

Mullion 246-5 (J Rowe 125, B Johnson 54, M Todd 20; T Carey 2-56, S Nicholls 2-59), St Just 248-6 (N Skerratt 82, R Dawes 51, extras 32; J Mathias 3-49, B Johnson 2-75). St Just (18 points) beat Mullion (eight) by four wickets.

PERRANPORTH 141 WENDRON 142-3 Wendron’s season-long wait for success in division two finally came to an end on Saturday when they won at fellow strugglers Perranporth by seven wickets. The win keeps Wendron above Perranporth at the foot of the table.

James Williams made two early strikes to get rid of Marcus Chaplin and Frank McCall with only 18 on the board before Ted Allsop was caught by Brett Andrew off Ryan Whitbread for 14. Josh Sharpe followed for ten, a first victim for Vince Schaper.

Theo Gayton held the home innings together hitting eight fours in his 50 made off 50 balls. Once he departed on Shaun Semmens with 27 offered much. Schaper was the star with the ball for Wendron taking four for 32 from eleven overs. Williams took three for 42 and Whitbread two for 47.

Wendron’s reply got off to a great start with Brett Andrew and Williams putting on 91 to lay the foundations for victory. Williams was first to go, caught by Sharpe off Semmens for 36. Schaper followed for 7 and Dominic Marston for 15, both to Semmens. Andrew remained undefeated on 42 not out having hit seven boundaries. The winning runs came with almost 13 overs to spare.

Wendron host Perranarworthal on Saturday as the second half of the season commences.

Perranporth 141 (T Gayton 50, S Semmens 27; V Schaper 4-32, J Williams 3-42, R Whitbread 2-47), Wendron 142 - 3 (B Andrew 42 no, J Williams 36, D Marston 15; S Semmens 3-26). Wendron (20 points) beat Perranporth (four) by seven wickets.

GOLDSITHNEY 275-6 WENDRON 241-9 A high scoring game at Underlane saw Goldsithney run out winners by 34 runs.

A century from Francis Pellow led the way for the visitors. Glen Wearne took three for 78 with a wicket apiece for Ryan Tresidder, Craig Burley and Nick Tomba.

After losing Bev Andrew and Tresidder early on George Whitbread with 43 and John Wearne saw the 100 up. Wearne went on to make 81 with three sixes and four fours. Tomba with 25, William Fairey with 17 and Andrew Triggs (14) gave him good support but the overs ran out with Wendron 34 runs adrift. A trip to Truro fourths awaits on Saturday.

Goldsithney 275-6 (F Pellow 103, A Pellow 43no, Extras 40, S Nicholson 36, G Wearne 3-78); Wendron 241-9 (J Wearne 82no, G Whitbread 43, Extras 42, N Tomba 23, S Lawrence 2-38, G Wykes 2-46). Goldsithney (20 points) beat Wendron (eight) by 34 runs.

Porthleven 126 Hayle seconds 129-2 Porthleven went down to a disappointing eight wicket defeat against mid table Hayle seconds at the Towans. It leaves Porthleven in eighth spot in the division three table with just three wins from the first half of the season. Kevin Oliver made 43 and Adam Young 20 in the Porthleven total of 126. Josh Rule took five for 34 and Luke Stuckey three for 23. Stalwart Clive Polkinghorne chipped in with two for 5. Hayle had little difficulty in reaching their target for the loss of just two wickets. Neil Trestrail made 38 before becoming one of two wickets for Adam Young. Stuckey went on to make an undefeated 73. Gulval, one place above Porthleven in the table, are the visitors to the ‘Bottoms’ this weekend.

Porthleven 126 (K Oliver 43, A Young 20; J Rule 5-34, L Stuckey 3-23, C Polkinghorne 2-5), Hayle 129-2 (L Stuckey 73no, N Trestrail 38; A Young 2-16). Hayle (20 points) beat Porthleven (four) by eight wickets.

Porthleven seconds 198-5. Leedstown 201-4 It was a disappointing day all round for the Porthleven club with the seconds going down to a six wicket home defeat despite making the useful score of 198. Phil Harding held the home innings together making 72 not out. Ben Pascoe opened with 36 and there were good knocks from Paul Combellack and Liam Powell. Phil Payne led the Leedstown reply making 53 not out. Marcus Chapman took two wickets at a cost of 46 runs. Porthleven are at St Buryan on Saturday.

Porthleven 198-5 (P Harding 72no, B Pascoe 36, P Combellack 24, L Powell 19; D Smitheram 2-37), Leedstown 201-4 (P Payne 53no, C Hampton 53no, K Hosking 37; M Chapman 2-46). Leedstown (17 points) beat Porthleven (six) by six wickets.

Truro thirds161-7, Helston 124 Helston went down to something of a surprise defeat at Boscawen Park to lose ground on Praze, Chacewater and Falmouth thirds at the top of division four. Truro openers Nik Lewis (24) and Christian Purchase (26) got their side off to a good start. Olly Creagh then made 53 and Andrew Heayn 29. Late wickets fell as the innings ended on 161 for seven after 48 overs. There were two wickets apiece for Peter Boyd, Jason Crocker and Guy Leathley. Chris Martin and Josh Ninnis added 32 for Helston’s first wicket before Ninnis was bowled for 4 by Stephen Heayn. Steven Hosking followed for a duck before Martin departed for 37 made out of 50 on the board. Josh Williams did his best to keep Helston in the game making 47 before being eighth out at 115. No one else though got into double figures as Kiran Bhardwaj wrapped up the tail to take four for 32 after Heayn took four for 31. Helston host Beacon seconds on Saturday. Helston seconds had a bye on Saturday and travel to Barripper seconds this weekend.
