The bubble has yet to burst in the Cornwall Grand Prix Road Race Series, sponsored by Cornwall Glass and Glazing, with a record entry of over five hundred runners in last Saturday evening’s Sticker five-mile race, round seven of the 2009 Grand Prix Series.

On nearly the longest day of the year with a cracking breeze and sunshine, competitors arriving at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club Committee Boat for the start of racing anticipated rather longer courses than were set. In the IRC Class A yachts, Con Mulcahy's Shenanigan had the best start but it was Damien Bloor’s larger Daring which powered up the first beat.

Four members from Cornwall’s Tri-Logic Triathlon Club travelled to Wimbleball Lake in the heart of Exmoor National Park over the weekend to compete in the Ironman UK 70.3 championships.

Before the final race of the Early Summer Series there were heavy showers threatening and not much wind, so most sailors put on waterproofs. An hour before the start, the winds swung to the North West and filled in nicely, the icing on the cake was the sun breaking through later in the race for a glorious evening sail.

Cornwall 136 Dorset 91 Cornwall’s Middleton Cup team, showing only one change from the team which beat Somerset at Winscombe two week’s ago, with Colin Binny replacing the unavailable Roger Teague in Mark Foster’s rink, romped to a 45 shots victory over Dorset at Weymouth on Saturday, dropping only two of the 22 points available, writes Grenville Phillips.

For the second race in Mylor Yacht Club’s mid-summer series, sponsored by Mylor Chandlery and Rigging, there was sufficient breeze for good length courses to be completed. Only three out of twenty five starters were unable to finish as the wind eventually died away.
