YOUNG windsurfers have been taking advantage of a special event at Stithians Lake to continue doing the sport in winter.

A mini series of slalom races has just been completed at the venue, which were open to ages and abilities.

Coaching was also provided by experienced windsurfer and national event competitor Christian Body.

After the prize giving ceremony marked the end of the series, many of the young surfers said they enjoyed it a lot.

Ben Williams, 14, said: “I thought the series was lots of fun.

“I enjoyed the challenging course and it has been a real motivation to keep going with the sport of windsurfing.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to do more racing next season.”

Over Easter, the lake will host a Spring Into Windsurfing day to give people the chance to try the sport out and improve their technique.

It will also be the venue for the Under 18s Junior National Watersports Festival on May 2 and 3, with taster sessions and coaching being included as part of the event.
