ROWERS at Helford River Gig Club will have a new boat to go out onto the water soon.

The club has purchased the gig built by David Currah after receiving a grant from SITA Cornwall Trust which was coupled together with club funds.

They have decided to call the boat Helford as it will be replacing another by the same name, which the club sold to Exmouth last year.

A naming and blessing ceremony has been arranged for March 28 at 11am by the Ferry Boat Inn with Rev Canon Bill Stuart-White, the Archdeacon of Cornwall, conducting the service.

Before then, club members will be working hard to get the pilot gig ready to take the water with varnishing and painting on the list of things to do.

On the day of the ceremony, other clubs are welcome to go along and row alongside Helford.
