SAILORS raced around the Lizard Peninsula towards Penzance in the latest Cornish Offshore Group Series race on Saturday.
Starting from the committee boat at Helford River Sailing Club, 15 boats ventured along the course which had mixed winds blowing across it.
After rounding Manacle Buoy, the bigger vessels moved ahead but a west going tide was being kind to all the crews, keeping them in contention.
Conditions on the water kept changing with the sea going from calm to stormy and the winds dying, which in all prompted many skippers to call off their race and head back to Falmouth.
Those who stayed on found some light breezes to keep them going before an onshore ten knot wind gave them all a much need shove towards the finish line with all getting over before the cut off time of 6pm.
