Falmouth’s Mylor Sailing School has been shortlisted for a VisitEngland Award for Excellence 2018.

Following its success in both the Cornwall and the South West Tourism Excellence Awards over the past two years, the school has now been announced as one of three finalists in the national Inclusive Tourism Award category, in recognition of the charity Mylor Sailability, which makes sailing accessible to people of all ages, whatever their impairment, learning difficulty or disability.

The school’s owner, Tracey Boyne, is thrilled: “We just can’t believe that we have been selected. If we can do this with two large wooden huts on a quay, then others can do it too! All thanks to our great team here.”

With nearly 350 applicants across 18 categories, competition for this prestigious accolade in English tourism has been strong.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Monday, April 23 at Bath Assembly Rooms, so Mylor Sailing School has to wait until then to discover whether they have achieved a Gold, Silver or Bronze placing.

VisitEngland Chief Executive Sally Balcombe said: “These awards are a celebration of our thriving tourism industry. They highlight the people and the organisations that deliver amazing experiences for visitors, raising the profile of England as a world-class destination.

“The finalists have shown themselves to be of the highest calibre, using their talent and innovation to deliver excellence. The hundreds of applications this year reflect the quality products across our tourism landscape and I warmly congratulate all the finalists and wish them the very best of luck.”
