It was good to see that the dolphins were back in fine form, writes Kaye Price. Blue (Cunliffe's) picked them up at the entrance to Carrick Roads and they then moved over to Macavity (J Murrell) and had great fun nudging the boat although the steering was at times difficult. Double Jeopardy (R Hollingsworth) was next in line where one dolphin became enamoured of that rudder.

Everyone was pleased to see them and the Macavity skipper commented on his excellent crew and the wonderful rainbow they had also seen, so a night to remember at Flushing Sailing Club, perhaps.

In E class Hawk (C Bell) felt they were suffering from 'Fowey fatigue and not as on the ball as usual. Maybe it was the same for Moonshine (K Maclean) who struggled with their spinnaker and lost some places whilst Amneris (P Hacket) was not the only one who battled with the tide on Pendennis buoy.

A fine fleet of Sunbeams were out sailing and in the J24s Phil Samuel in Jethro appeared blessed as he started well then stretched the lead to finish first. 'U and Q classes now start together and with three boats sailing in the latter white sail fleet, this is working well.

It was good to see Tim Swain in Magpea G class coming second even though he had a penalty turn, and in the working boats 'Victory started so close to the committee boat that everyone prepared to abandon ship, even though she had to bear away she still managed to win her class.

The race officer, John Cruise, was complemented by all fleets for the excellent courses and that the wind stayed fresh and everyone sailed home in good time for a meal and drink in the club. Considering that 53 boats were on the water everything ran smoothly and with such a variety of boats, the finish was a joy to see.
