KERNOW Volleyball Team started their season in style this weekend cruising to a 3-1 win over Horndean VC in the first round of the National Cup.

Having made the step up to the National League this season, this was the first test, against an established Division Two side.

The first set could not have started better for Kernow as they dominated it early on, grabbing an 8 - 1 lead at the first time-out.

Horndean never rallied and the set closed 25 - 11.

It was not as smooth in the second set with several unforced errors and complacency from Kernow saw Horndean level at one set all.

However, Kernow upped the ante taking the third and the fourth set with some exciting attacking play, to win the match 3-1.

Team captain James Moseley said he was delighted with the performance from the Duchy side.

Moseley said: “Horndean are an established team in Division Two, a league higher than we’re in this year, so it was an amazing result to outplay them as we did.

“I was really pleased with the way we attacked from all positions.

The reward for the win is a match away to Tendering FC, a Division One side from Essex.

Kernow’s first league fixtures are on Sunday against Team Southampton and The New Forest at Truro Leisure Centre, starting at 11:30 and 15:30.
