SWIMMERS from the Special Olympics Cornwall had a successful evening at the South West Region gala in Plymouth.

A team of five went to the competition which had races in freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke swimming over 25m and 50m distances.

Each gave the chance for competitors to qualify for the next British Games being held in 2017 in Sheffield.

It proved to be an outstanding evening for the Cornish team with podium finishes for everyone involved.

Star of the show was Pascal Latham who swam in five events and won two golds and three silvers.

Medals were also achieved by Thomas Parker, Aiden Coxhead, Peter Morice and Adam Roebuck.

David Painter, chairman of Special Olympics Cornwall, said: “They all did Cornwall, their families, their support workers and most importantly, themselves, proud.

“To see the joy on their faces gives us all at Special Olympics Cornwall an amazing feeling and we are proud and pleased for them.”

Anyone with a learning disability or an IQ of less than 75 can join the club with the next meeting in Truro College’s Lynher Building on November 1 from 12noon to 3pm.
