BEN Ambrose made it a quick job in the boxing ring on Saturday as he won his fifth bout in a row.

The Falmouth and Penryn fighter who is on very good form travelled to Newquay to face off with Travis Hughes of St Agnes.

His hard hitting opponent came forward right at the start as he threw in some big shots at Ambrose, who appeared to have a challenge on his hands.

But during the first round he fought back well as he saw off Hughes’ blows and threw in some heavy punches himself which hurt his rival.

By the end of the round, Hughes looked to be in some trouble after Ambrose caught him with a couple of good shots causing blood to come from the St Agnes man’s nose.

Then just seconds before the bell came, Ambrose hit Hughes with a fantastic left hook which sent him down on the canvas.

If it had been earlier in the round, it could have been curtains for the fight there and then.

Ambrose knew he just had to keep going in the direction he had and it would only be a matter of time before Hughes’ night was up.

He began the second round connecting with some decent blows again.

After a barrage of shots, Hughes hit the floor again and at this point the referee had seen enough and stopped the fight.
