A SATELLITE centre for a sports group for people with learning disabilities will be opening on Sunday.

Special Olympics Cornwall are bringing the club to Helston Sports Centre having already enjoyed success with their regular monthly sessions at Truro College.

The club is open to anyone who has a learning disability with the aim being to give them an opportunity to enjoy sport and keep physically fit.

Activities played at the sessions include football, boccia, bowls and badminton among others.

David Painter, chairman of the group, said: “The club in Truro has a regular attendance of over 40 athletes plus 15 volunteers to assist.

“We want to extend the opportunities for those with learning disabilities to as many areas as possible during the next six months and we are starting in Helston.

“You don’t have to be a good player as the sports are organised so that players of similar ability play against each other, so everyone has the opportunity to be a winner.”

The sessions in Helston will run on the third Sunday of every month with doors open from 4pm to 6pm.
