HISTORY has been made by the Penryn College Under 16s netball team after making their way to next month’s National Finals.

When they travel up to Liverpool on March 14 for the competition, it will mark the first time any side from the school based on Kernick Road has reached the last stage.

Their chance to go for the national title comes after the girls won the South West crown after competing at the regional competition in Bournemouth.

Despite being county champions for five years in a row, the team had never made it past this stage.

But wins in five out of their six qualifying group games, alongside a draw, saw them make the knockout part of the event.

After beating the host school in the semi finals, Penryn then defeated Millfield 7-4 to claim the regional title and their place in Liverpool.

Alongside the U16s, the college’s U14s also travelled to Bournemouth, where they won two group stage games but did not make it past this stage.

Coach Angie Walker said: “It’s an amazing achievement from both teams to make it here, so for one to win it is fantastic for the school.

“The girls’ positivity and incredible teamwork got them here and was a massive factor in getting them the win.”
