MEDALS were struck in good numbers for members of Falmouth’s First Defence Black Belt School at the English and British Taekwondo Championship.

There was a family feel to proceedings at the English competition held in Swindon as Kate Palin won gold for sparring, while her son Jake claimed silver in the same category.

Brothers and sisters also got in on the act as Treeve and Tegen Treloar picked up bronze medals, with the latter picking up two in her sparring competition.

Alex Atkinson Sims bagged gold in his fight while Robert Beard finished first in the continuous sparring and a bronze in the points sparring.

The team then went to the British Championships to take on the best competitors from the country along with fighters from Ireland and The Netherlands.

Plenty more medals of all colours were secured by them with golds going to Ethan Griffiths, Robert Beard and Tegen Treloar.

Griffiths and Beard both finished the tournament with a silver medal as well while Treloar won a bronze in the patterns category.

Further silver medals were earned by Matt Carney and Ryan Beard with William Crouch winning double bronze and Falmouth School pupil Sam Phelps came third in his competition.
