HOPES of claiming the West Cornwall Table Tennis Premier Division title were dashed for Falmouth Docks A as the prize slipped away from them.

Going into their last two matches of the season, Bridge A held their nerve to win both of them and pick up the trophy for the first time in eight years.

Their success was sorted after recording 9-1 victories against Docks F and Mounts Bay A with Will Abouelhana and Kelly Reed winning all their games and ending the season with 87 and 75 per cent averages respectively.

Docks A had to settle for second place in the division and guaranteed themselves runners-up spot with a 9-1 win over Bridge B.

Mark Meijvis won all three of his games to end the campaign with the highest overall average, totalling 96 per cent, while Chris Peters also finished the match unbeaten.

A thrilling climax was had in the final round of Division One fixtures as Palace B snatched away the title from Mylor A.

The latter needed a 10-0 win over Docks J to secure the prize after Palace beat Docks H and Docks G 8-2 in their last two matches, but they fell just short with a 8-2 victory.

In their previous tie, Mylor scored a 9-1 win against Docks K and end the campaign two points shy of Palace.

Proceedings have been a touch easier for Penryn-based Saracens A in the Second Division as they claimed the title with a match to spare.

Their latest games saw them defeat Docks Q 6-4 before drawing 5-5 against Cape Cornwall with Morgan Cardell winning five games out of six and Joe Tuffrey picking up four victories.
