THE SARACENS were visibly psyched for the match ahead and carried this into the game with a dominant start, writes Jack Thomas.

Penryn tested the Newquay defence on a number of occasions, but the Hornets absorbed anything thrown at them and a mistimed pass and quick thinking saw Newquay open the score line with an interception try.

Penryn responded with the same pressure as before and it was rewarded when a free kick landed in the hands of Hooker Daniel Booth who trundled over the line to score.

Newquay took advantage of an injury break and immediately scored with a breakaway try, giving no time to Saracens to adjust to their surroundings.

The hosts had a player sin binned for blocking, allowing Saracens front row set up the next drive toward the line with Booth crashing over the line for his second try.

Saracens attack continued in the second half with winger Jason Jowett crossing the line in the opening minutes, but Newquay returned the favour with an instant reply.

The half settled into a back and forth tussle until Jake Seviour was pushed through a gap by Alex Stuthridge to increase the lead.

The Penryn forwards deserve the credit for a fantastic driving scrum to which Saracens were a penalty try.

The match approached a tense finale with Newquay crossing the line to bring themselves one point behind with 30 seconds remaining. Saracens held on to the end to complete a hard fought victory.
