POINTS did not come in bucket loads at the Memorial Ground on Saturday as Penryn Saracens edged a 5-3 win over Roseland, writes Jack Thomas.

Ben Trevaskis, making his second appearance for the team this season after leaving the Cornish Pirates, scored the only try of the game early on.

His score came with the assistance of stand-in skipper Daniel Booth and lock Martin Rainbird.

The match there after settled into a defensive stalemate with both teams having spells on the ball.

Saracens attack was rushed at times, causing simple turnovers, but their defensive tackling was superb with Will Paine and Alex Stuthridge being particularly impressive.

The second half proceeded in a similar style to the first with Penryn changing the line-up with half time replacements Josh Dale, Rob Trevaskis, Harry James-Mills, Ryan Churcher, James Dobson amd Ben Harris coming on.

Roseland had the main run of the play in the first ten minutes, testing Borough’s line on several occasions and finally being awarded a penalty, to which they converted.

The game continued with a vigorous back and forth between the sides with Saracens coming close on a number of occasions with Paine, Stuthridge and Jason Jowett coming agonisingly close to scoring.

However, Roseland were not able to add any more points to their total either, handing the host’s their fourth straight win.
