CAMBORNE climbed to third spot in the South West One table with a workmanlike performance to see off their Gloucestershire visitors at the Recreation Ground.

The Cherry and Whites were without injured props Malcolm Hearn and Leigh Hocking but had able deputies in the shape of Will Webster and stalwart Nigel Endean whilst Ben Kemp resumed at lock.

Though never looking like losing, the home side will reflect on missing out on the bonus point with a number of good field positions that came to nothing.

On at least half a dozen occasions during the afternoon, Town's forwards failed to get over the goal line, seeing their lineout catch and drives thwarted either by their own inaccuracy or the streetwise visiting pack.

After a scoreless first quarter in which lock Tony Whittle went desperately close to the opening Camborne's try count, it was Drybrook who went in front going through several phases before working an overlap for centre Simon Rugman to cross wide on the left.

On the half hour, Town hit back going for the line three times from five metre scrums before finally flanker Cameron Bone plunged over with David Mankee converting for a 7-5 lead.

Drybrook soon nudged back in front with a simple penalty by scrum half Tom Treherne.

But as the interval neared, Camborne countered with number eight David Roberts driven over for fly-half Mankee to add the extras making it 14-8 at the break.

Early in the second period the Cherry and Whites stretched their advantage as hooker Sam Bartle touched down on the back of an unstoppable forward surge with Mankee converting with a well judged kick.

Though Camborne huffed and puffed they could not get over the Drybrook line thereafter and the visitors cut the deficit on an isolated attack midway through the half with the influential Rugman touching down his second unconverted try.

In the closing stages there was no further scoring though only a last ditch Bone tackle denied Rugman his hat-trick before Camborne scrum half Taron Peacock sprinted clear only to be thwarted close to dotting down late on.
