A SECOND victory was recorded by Penryn Saracens over a Newquay XV in the space of a fortnight on Saturday, writes Jack Thomas.

On September 20, a close affair finished 27-26 in favour of Borough against their first team, but this time round it proved to be an easier encounter for the visitors with the Hornet's reserve side as they ran away with the match winning 77-12.

Newquay kicked off the match and Penryn caught the ball and made an immediate charge into their opponent’s half.

The pressure was too much for Newquay to handle with centre Alex Stuthridge crashing over the line within five minutes.

Penryn were eager to keep up the pressure and a fine forwards display saw number eight Chris Instance cross the line in the 13th minute.

Saracens kept up this display of dominance with a delicate cross field kick across the Newquay line which was unfortunately knocked on by full back Jake Seviour.

The Penryn scrum turned over a brief spell of Newquay possession and shipped the ball out to the wing where Saracens’ debutant James Evans showed a strong burst of pace to fire over the line on the 17th minute for third try of the game.

Instance scored his second of the game three minutes later with powerful solo effort and the scores continued to flow for Saracens with winger Jules Kennedy touching down soon after.

Newquay held onto possession testing the Borough defence, with Will Paine making some impressive tackling.

Then the home attack faltered and Kennedy capitalised with his second try of the game in the 35th minute.

Newquay responded to a brief moment of Borough complacency, surprising the Saracens crossing the line between the posts.

But on the stroke of half time, Penryn added another try to the score-line with Instance getting his hat-trick.

The second half began in much of a similar fashion with Penryn’s scrum performing excellently in the opening few minutes pushing Newquay off every ball contested.

Fly-half James Salisbury capitalised on the forwards dominance scoring Penryn’s eighth try of the game on the 53rd minute.

Salisbury appeared again 12 minutes later selling the Newquay full-back a cheeky dummy.

Newquay looked visibly exhausted and Paine confirmed this, adding his first try of the game to the Borough score-line.

Evans added his second of the game on the 70th minute before Instance appeared again in the 75th minute scoring his fourth of the game.

Newquay scored their second try on the 78th minute, but Paine finished off by scoring the final score of the match in the last minute.
