LOCK Ben Trevaskis is delighted to be “back home” at Penryn after re-joining the club – adding he has ambitions to represent Cornwall.

On Thursday night it was confirmed by the Tribute Western Counties West side a deal had been struck with the 22-year-old seeing him return to the Memorial Ground.

In the summer, Trevaskis signed for the Cornish Pirates under their Player Development Foundation project but his stay at the Mennaye was cut short after the forward was sidelined with food poisoning, leaving him unable to train.

Since departing the club on September 19, Trevaskis has featured for the Penryn’s Saracens team in matches with Newquay and Roseland, scoring a try against the latter.

A number of offers had come from clubs in the South West for the second row, but he said in the end his decision was a simple one, adding he hopes performing well for Penryn can get him into the Cornish team.

Trevaskis said: “I had several offers from clubs including from English National One sides, but in the end after playing a few games there and being back around Penryn again, my mind was pretty much made up for me.

“I have loved being back at Borough and it feels like I’ve moved back with my family again.

“Now I need to keep regaining my strength and fitness to fight my way back into the first team, which will be tough as the locks currently in the team are on good form.

“But I’m happy to do my time with the Saracens and I would love my performances with the team can help me stake a claim to wear the black and gold of Cornwall in the Bill Beaumont Cup.”

Trevaskis featured in the Saracens side who defeated Newquay away 77-12.

Penryn’s head coach Russell Lawrance said it was great to see Trevaskis return to the club.

“I spoke to him about what I think he can contribute to the club and I’m absolutely delighted that he signed up,” Lawrance said.

“Something we’re trying to install in the lads is the responsibility and decision making on the field, so hopefully the experience Ben got at the Pirates, although brief, is something he can bring to the team.

“What I’m also pleased with is that we are creating the right environment here where players like Ben feel like they want to be part of it.”

On Saturday, Penryn face a derby clash with Truro at the Memorial Ground while the Saracens travel to St Agnes. Both games kick-off at 3pm.
