CORNISH Pirates players Darren Barry and Tom Kessell have been named in the Championship XV squad to face Canada on November 2.

The Rugby Football Union confirmed the team on Friday morning which will come up against the North American side at Sixways Stadium in Worcester.

Ex-Redruth star Mark Bright, who now plays for London Scottish, has also made the squad.

The last time a combined Greene King IPA Championship team was put together in 2012 for a match with New Zealand Maori's, three members of the Pirates squad, Gavin Cattle, Alan Paver and Phil Burgess, featured.

Current director of rugby Ian Davies was assistant coach of the last team and said it is great to have Pirates in the team again.

Davies said: "I am thrilled for Tom and Darren as their selection is fully deserved. Both have been outstanding again this season and they have a big future.

“It is an opportunity to show what they can do against international opposition, and when you look at the number of players who featured in the first Championship XV game played two years ago, a number have featured since in the Premiership."

Along with the players, Pirates physio Fliss Middleton will also be involved for the match.
