ON a bright sunny day with a light breeze the conditions which was just about perfect for rugby, Falmouth Eagles kept their winning run going.

Their 20-10 victory on Saturday over Bude is their third in a row as they continue to make improvements to their opening three losses.

It was a rather lethargic beginning for the home team though and Bude took full advantage of this with the first attack of the game.

From their own kick off, the visitors grabbed the possession and made their way into the Eagles’ 22 before the pass went out to openside flanker Freddy Saxton, who went over in the corner.

Falmouth still seemed asleep in the half until a few physical scrums appeared to get them back in the flow.

The link-ups between the forwards and backs started to come as the ball moved from side-to-side before full-back Josh Symons found room to dive in and level proceedings.

Both sides remained on an even kilter for the next 20 minutes as possession went from one to the other, albeit with neither able to create any momentum or significant chances.

There was enough skill shown by Eagles scrum-half Andy Munro-Lott though to put his team 12-5 ahead at the break.

From a scrum five metres away from the Bude goal line, Munro-Lott showed some lively footwork and a lovely dummy to side step his way in under the posts.

Bude made the most of another lazy beginning to a half by the Eagles as the hosts were caught napping not long after the restart from a line-out with Adam Williams working his way over.

With a small stranglehold of the game, Bude tried to up the pace but found the home defence tough to break down with Simon Bailey and Matt Kevern showing particularly good tackling skills.

They also helped create space for their colleagues in the back of the field to run around in and this created an overlapping move which let Tom Spiller in for his fourth try of the season.

After this, Falmouth did their best to maintain possession with the sides separated by two scores.

As the match became feisty with Bude looking to do all they could to move forward, it was left to the boot of Justin Irons to finished the scoring off with a fine penalty kick from 40 yards out.

The Eagles will be hoping to keep their winning mentality intact in their next match, but face tough opponents in the form of Crediton away.
